Phyton

A part of a plant consisting of a piece of stem and a joint with a leaf. This has the potential to be a whole plant, by encouraging one end to grow a root, as in taking a cutting. Conceptually this is the smallest piece of a plant that is complete in itself.

Goblins used this idea and name for one of their grotesque creations, a fractal exponentially growing plant that can cover the land, each segment able to regenerate to re-create the over if somehow damages, perhaps by fire or great brazen claws.
